Tally vs Descript
Descript is an audio and video editor built around transcripts: transcribe an episode, edit the text, and the media follows. Tally also transcribes your episodes — and that's roughly where the overlap ends.
Descript transcribes one episode so you can edit it. Tally transcribes your entire archive so you can use it — search it, build topic pages from it, prep from it, and pull from it live while you record. If editing is the job, Descript is the tool. This page is about the other job.

The whole archive, not one episode
Tally imports your show from its RSS feed and transcribes every episode with speaker labels. Then it makes the catalog usable: hybrid semantic and keyword search across everything your show has ever said, and topic pages that collect every episode that mentioned a subject — timestamped, one click into the transcript at that moment.
An interactive topic cloud and knowledge graph map what the show has covered over the years, and Cmd+K search reaches all of it. There's also a media library for the video, images, and PDFs around your show, with visual search across video frames.
Prep and live, not post-production
Where an editor starts after the recording ends, Tally works before and during it. Prep briefs pull together web research on your guest, a run-of-show, and questions to work from.
During the session, the desktop copilot transcribes in real time and puts context cards on your screen while you talk — with a producer view, a stage display, and guest rooms for the people on the other side of the conversation.
What Tally doesn't do
Tally has no editing timeline. It won't cut a take, clean up audio, or export a finished episode, and it doesn't record, host, or publish. If editing is all you need, you don't need Tally — stay where you are.
Using both
Plenty of shows will run both. Edit and polish the episode in Descript, publish it, and let Tally index it from your RSS feed so it joins the searchable archive. Prep and the live copilot sit around your recording sessions either way.
